Musical Theater Program Description
Healthy singing combined with acting, easy dance moves, and staging, were all applied to perform group songs with a few small solos.
Starburst Voice/Theater:
Level 1, ages 5–8. A 45–min. class once a week.
This is early-age exposure to singing (and speaking) with a clear voice and easy breath flow, free of tension, on the pitch, and in tempo, through fun exercises and songs. Music, both acapella and accompanied, will be chosen from Broadway and movie musicals, Disney, folk, pop, and children’s songs, all appropriate for the child’s developing voice. The acting and movement portions include group improvisation games, simple steps, and arm moves, beginning character development, and confidence building for performance.
Tween Voice/Theater:
Level 2, Ages 8–14. A 1-hour class once a week.
This class will continue the level 1 goals, developing clear, stress-free vocal skills using head voice, chest voice, and mix, exploring their full vocal range of low to high, smoothing the voice breaks, singing acapella, and harmonizing. Students will be encouraged to have more creative input (age- and voice-appropriate) in music selections and performances, staying mostly with the styles listed for Starburst. In the acting portion, basic archetypes will be learned and used to create interesting characters, and both improvisation and movement will be added to performances. Audition skills and secrets will be taught and practiced.
